How to Identify an Email Virus

Not all Email Virus are easily identified.
However some are dead give-aways. 
We have listed here the most common and recent ones.
Virus Name Common ID Comments
Goner.A Email come from a friend, as it reads their address book.
Common identifying characteristic is the subject. 
Subject: Hi
Contains an attachment called GONE.SCR which is the virus
Badtrans Email come from a friend, as it reads their address book.
Common identifying characteristic is the email address of the sender. It usually starts with an underscore eg._joebloggs@nowhere.com  
From: _anyone@anyemailaddress.com 
Email with attachment is usually around 42,000bytes long, which is the virus
W32Magistr. Email come from a friend, as it reads their address book.
The contents of the email from friend is  a real email that they have sent to someone, but that the virus has picked out at random then broadcast itself to everyone in the address book. 
Message: unusual but legitimate. ( if you think "Why did he send this to me?"...that's the virus)
Attachment has .bat .com .exe .pif
Nimda   Attachment called readme.exe (not always visible
